Great photography is about depth of feeling, not depth of field.

Natural and candid wedding photography

A Little About Me

As a documentary wedding photographer, my goal is to make your big day not just memorable, but also a little easier and hopefully a whole lot more memorable. With my wedding experience and photography skills, I’ll be your personal guide through the delightful chaos of your wedding while capturing genuine moments that will make your heart sing. There’s an expression that “laughter is the best accessory on your big day.” While I can’t guarantee I’ll be the one cracking the best jokes all day, I’ll certainly have a go while trying to blend into your day and make it as stress-free as possible. Think of me as that extra wedding guest with a camera who’s always ready with a smile and a laugh.

My Photographic Journey

My journey in photography began just before digital became the norm. I spent countless hours in a dark room, developing negatives and printing in black and white and colour at St. John’s College in Cork at the start of the century. It was here I honed my skills in composition, lighting, and the art of patience. While there, I experimented with various styles of photography, from studio, advertising and portrait photography. Ultimately it was documentary photography that held my heart as I became fascinated by the challenge of creating images from everyday life.

No Posing

My approach to wedding photography is simple yet effective, just like me! By showing up to a wedding without having to get people to pose, I allow for the genuine and spontaneous moments of the day to unfold naturally. By being a fly on the wall, I can capture authentic interactions and heartfelt reactions that often go unnoticed in posed photography. Not having to pose eases the stress for couples and their guests but also leads to unique and candid images that tell a compelling story of their celebration. My ability to document the day as it happens results in a rich tapestry of memories, showcasing the true essence of what went on without the constraints of traditional posing.

Why Wedding Photography?

Wedding photography is my ideal job because it perfectly combines my passion for storytelling with my love for connecting with people. Each wedding presents a unique narrative, and I thrive on capturing the genuine emotions and spontaneous moments that unfold throughout the day. A wedding day is a monumental day in your lives and documenting your day surrounded by their family and friends, is incredibly fulfilling. Plus, I get to be a part of the celebration without the pressure of being the main center of attention—just a friendly face with a camera, ready to document all the action.

The Challenge’s & Rewards

This does not mean that my day is easy. The dynamic nature of different locations, various lighting conditions, and operating two cameras keeps me fully engaged and on my toes. I enjoy the challenge of adapting to different environments and lighting conditions, ensuring that I capture every detail beautifully. My positive attitude and relaxed approach helps ease any nerves, allowing couples and their guests to relax and be themselves. From experience, this does not happen automatically. While guests might be a little reserved at the start of the day, by the end of the day nobody takes any notice of me when I am taking photographs of them burning up the dance floor with those smooth disco moves.

That’s Enough About Me. Let Me Hear About You

If you have no idea what you want for your wedding photography or are perhaps put off by the idea of having to pose all day, maybe I’ll be the right fit for you. Why not find out? Lets capture those beautiful, chaotic moments together because your wedding day deserves to be celebrated in all its glory and I would be honoured to be a part of it. Michael was brilliant, fun and friendly and his work was first class. He knew what would work, and the photos of the day really came to life. He directed our large wedding party with good humour and grace (and patience!)

The service was personalised, professional and enthusiastic throughout. We couldn’t be happier with the end product – photographs we will cherish forever. Thank you Michael!

Dave & Sharon

We got married earlier this year. Our original photographer let us down by cancelling just a couple of weeks before the wedding. Luckily we heard of Advocate Photography from a friend. From the start Michael was extremely helpful with ideas of shots that we would not have thought of. We were not even aware of a good number of shots that were taken, which really added to the end product.

Michael was extremely professional throughout the day and understood the stress of the situation. He kept us calm and did not let the wedding photography become an issue at any stage. We could not recommend Advocate Photography any higher and were very impressed with the service before, during and after the day itself. Thank you Michael.

We had such a good day. Michael worked so hard and we barely knew he was there. Loved the results xxx
